Dec 14 The King Is Coming
Day 14 - The King is Coming!
Luke 2:1-5 NKJV 2 And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. 4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
I think most of us know that the last weeks of pregnancy can be grueling. As a spouse or as the expectant mum, emotions run high and everyone’s nerves can be somewhat frazzled. Imagine the preparations, the baby shower, getting a crib, buying bedding and clothes and toys and even painting the nursery in anticipation of the baby ‘s arrival. But what if you are Mary and Joseph? Suddenly some government official decides they want to do a census and you have to travel to another town. You are carrying the future King and everything about this pregnancy has been unusual to say the least. The journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem was beyond hard and to top it all they had no cart in which Mary could ride. No, she had to ride on a donkey. Wasn’t she the mother of a King? How utterly undignified, not to mention uncomfortable.
